Episode 19 Background
China's One-child only policy was put into effect in 1979 and has dramatically influenced the Country's population and demographics. The intent of the policy was to limit Population Growth within certain provinces due to on China's limited ability to provide for it's citizens. Some calculations showed that 700 million people could be sustained permanently on the resources and methods available at that time. Anyone exceeding the One-child policy was fined or threatened with loss of government services. As a result, a majority chose Sterilization, Contraception, or other discreet means to subvert the policy.
