The prison system in the United States is a several billion dollar business. Being accused of a crime, guilty or not guilty Judgement, has disruptive and destructive repercussions. People sit in jail, sometimes indefinitely, awaiting trial and Adjudication, so that they can be found innocent. If not, prison is what awaits them. Tiny cell, bare minimum meals, set schedule, and zero freedom awaits the guilty. Places like Eastern State Penitentiary or a Supermax Prison like ADX Florence await the most egregious Crimes.
